Economic gains and resilience in Canada after the global economic crisis are some of the many expressions of rising coherence in national consciousness, according to Transcendental Meditation teachers. This coherent influence is being produced by increasing numbers of people across the country making use of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's programmes and technologies of consciousness, they said.

Encouraging economic indicators in the last year or two have paralleled the more than 100 per cent increase in Canadians learning Transcendental Meditation during this time.

The nation's positive economic profile has earned recognition from Christine Lagarde, head of the International Monetary Fund, who said recently that the measures taken to protect Canada's economy during the crisis should be a model for all other countries trying to fix their financial systems.

The head of the Royal Bank of Canada, Gordon Nixon, said that in the United States some people lost their jobs and then their homes, but this double loss did not happen in Canada.

Dr John Cowhig, a Canadian teacher of Transcendental Meditation for many years, commented that the country's economy is bouncing back and often exceeding pre-crisis numbers.

'Recent job gains after the crash of 2008 have been the greatest since 1981,' he said, a development that is 'quite extraordinary. Our manufacturing centres roared back to levels not seen since before the 2008 financial crisis.'

For example, car sales are now past 2008 levels, building permits are up 7.4 per cent, and trade with the United States, Canada's largest trade partner, has increased 38 per cent over the last two years—which amounts to about $2 billion a day, Dr Cowhig said.

Unemployment is down to 7.2 per cent and Canada has gained back all of the 400,000 jobs that were lost during the recession, and added another 365,000 jobs on top of that.

Canadian retail businesses are bouncing back too. Automakers have had their most profitable year in over a decade. 'After the crash we were down to 1.5 million car sales a year. That is now back up to 2.54 million, the highest that it has ever been.'

Lastly, in a sure sign of economic success, Statistics Canada estimates that Canada will eliminate its deficit by as early as 2015.
