New backlighting to illuminate Dreier Building

A generous donor who is eager to help beautify campus has made a major contribution that will fund the purchase and installation of backlighting for the Dreier Building.

Ground-level spotlights placed around the building will shine upward, casting shadows that highlight the building's elegant Vedic brickwork that includes pilasters, brackets, entablatures, cornices, and plinths.

'Dreier is our flagship building constructed according to Maharishi Sthåpatya Veda(SM) design, and the new backlighting will highlight its beauty,' said Brad Mylett, director of institutional advancement. He explained that stately buildings are often lit in this fashion.

The lights will mostly be placed in the window wells and will illuminate the east, south, and west sides every evening from dusk to midnight. There will also be lights shining on the gold letters on the east side that read 'Dreier Building.'

'The gentle glowing effect will inspire people,' Mr. Mylett said. 'The Dreier Building is a beacon of beauty, and the lighting will further enhance this beauty.'

The design and installation of the lighting will be done by staff member Ray Ward, who is an expert with many years of experience in this area.

Mr. Mylett said that the illuminated building will be visible from Highway 1. The north side won't have lighting because the street lights already in place would diminish the effect.
