The New York Times recently reported that silence and the opportunity to focus inward is becoming more appreciated in today's noisy world. The article interviewed Glen Davis, car-dealer and practitioner of the Transcendental Meditation Programme, who opts for silent getaways at The Raj, Maharishi Vedic Health Center.

'It's the best vacation I've ever had,' Davis told reporter Joanne Kaufman. He went on to say, 'The whole idea behind TM is that you're silent during the meditation, and this was a chance to be in silence for an entire week. It's so restful. Your whole life is focused outward, and this was an opportunity to get to a very deep state of rest. You don't realize how much effort it takes to talk until you're not doing it.'

The article also noted that at The Raj, a Maharishi Vedic Health Center in Fairfield, Iowa, not only are treatments given in silence, but guests can request entire stays in silence.
