On 9 October 2007 The BioTour reported: A group on a biotour across America to film a documentary aimed at helping spread the news about alternative energies, stopped in Fairfield, Iowa, to learn more about the healthy, sustainable lifestyle at Maharishi University of Management and the surrounding community. It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring fulfilment to the field of culture.

The documentarians, who are touring the US in a biofriendly bus converted to run on vegetable oil, stopped at the Maharishi University of Management campus where they enjoyed a 'delicious' vegetarian meal in the dining hall, where both students and professors 'waited in line for organic vegetarian food, most of it grown on university land'.

Next they toured a 'K-12 school in an old brick building a few hundred of yards from the cafeteria. The school taught sustainability as part of the curriculum. The Field to Table program allowed children to grow and eat food from the school's greenhouses. A little sign read: ''Sweet Potatoes, 7th grade boys''. We picked some luscious looking chard for dinner and hurried off to our next stop on our tour of Fairfield.'

The tour continued on to a local organic farm. 'It felt invigorating to be surrounded by so much life,' the article stated.

The final stop included a look at Abundance Eco Village where they found 'several homes that were completely energy-independent using a combination of wind, photovoltaic, and solar thermal. The normal looking homes use one-tenth of the energy of an average home with a combination of insulation and energy efficient appliances, and rather than pumping valuable water to keep their lawns green, the homes are surrounded by edible plants.'

The article noted that beans fed nitrogen to corn stalks, and the squash grew in the shade below. Edible weeds were grown for salads, and water was collected by a rainwater catchment.

At Abundance Eco Village they also met students from the university who were learning about sustainable living through the 'hands on' Big Green Summer Program.
