On 13 May 2008 MTV.com reported:
Filmmaker David Lynch, a practitioner of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's Transcendental Meditation Technique for over thirty years, recently spoke at the David Lynch Weekend hosted by Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa, USA.
It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring
fulfilment to the field of culture.
Mr Lynch answered questions from the enthusiastic audience gathered in Fairfield—which the article described as 'an intensely cheerful town'.
Aspirants of filmmaking were inspired by his comments about this field. (In response to a request for 'Lynchian imagery' he cited an example that included red ants in space.)
Most of his answers however, centered around Transcendental Meditation. The article quoted him saying that 'Negativity blocks creativity.' He explained that Transcendental Meditation is an effective means to reduce stress, and he described how valuable it has been to him in his career. He also emphasized the great benefit of Transcendental Meditation for students.
Mr Lynch has spoken about Transcendental Meditation in countries around the world, and is also the author of 'Catching the Big Fish', a book which describes the benefit of meditation he has experienced in his own life.
Another highlight of the Weekend was a concert with musician and long-time practitioner of Transcendental Meditation, Donovan, as well as Moby, and Chrysta Bell.
