A magazine in Holland recently featured interviews with successful citizens who practise Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's Transcendental Meditation Programme, inspiring a new wave interest in the technique.

The article begins by dispelling misconceptions about what kind of people meditate: they are not people with their heads in the clouds, the article states—they are prominent people in society, successful businessmen and women, doctors, etc., explained Dr Paul Gelderloos, National Director of Holland for the Global Country of World Peace.

One man describes how he was somewhat directionless in his youth, and had trouble concentrating in school. Then he learned the Transcendental Meditation Programme and everything changed. In the article he especially emphasizes the value of the deep rest Transcendental Meditation provides, which allows stress to dissolve, and increases clarity, focus, health, and happiness. He became a Teacher of Transcendental Meditation, and later he and his wife started their own business. He is now a successful businessman whose company exports products to 24 countries.

Another practitioner of Transcendental Meditation featured in the article is a doctor of internal medicine in Maastricht. He explains that because of a serious illness affecting his young daughter, he and his wife were under tremendous stress. He searched for a stress-reduction programme with a scientific basis, and he found Transcendental Meditation. He said he not only enjoys less stress, but now he sees life in terms of its wholeness. Even in his analytical profession, he now sees the need to look at the human being as a whole, and this is greatly appreciated by his patients, he says.

The article highlights three other outstanding citizens whose lives have been transformed in some way through Transcendental Meditation, and concludes: 'These shining, happy people are among us and their number is quickly expanding.'

Immediately following the release of this article, interest in Transcendental Meditation increased significantly, Dr Gelderloos said. 'We hope this is the beginning of a continuing wave', he said.
