The visit of world-renowned filmmaker David Lynch to Russia this spring, as well as the release of the Russian version of his book, Catching the Big Fish, inspired a great wave of interest in the Transcendental Meditation Programme which has yet to subside.

Speaking about Dr Lynch's visit, Dr Maxim Shatohin, National Director of Russia for the Global Country of World Peace, described a four-fold increase in visitors to the Transcendental Meditation website, with the number remaining high after Dr Lynch's departure.

Inquiries about Transcendental Meditation also increased at the nation's Maharishi Invincibility Centres.

David Lynch's visit included a two-hour press conference, held at the largest news agency in Russia and attended by more than 70 journalists. Dr Shatohin commented on the clarity and simplicity of Dr Lynch's answers to their questions about his creative work, consciousness, and Transcendental Meditation.

Another event at the All Russia Academy of Directors was filled beyond capacity, with people sitting or standing anywhere they could—even in the corridors. It was the first time in the history of the academy that this lecture hall couldn't accommodate the audience, the National Director said.

Dr Lynch's Book, Catching the Big Fish: Meditation, Consciousness, and Creativity, generated great interest especially among students, Dr Shatohin continued. Students and others who came to a book signing at one of the largest book stores in Moscow were lined up out the door and down the street. 'There wasn't enough room in the store for everyone who wanted to see David Lynch and have him autograph their book,' Dr Shatohin said.

Dr Shatohin commented that during Dr Lynch's visit they were preparing a third publication of the book because it sold out so quickly after its release.

Meditators, Yogic Flyers, and Teachers of Transcendental Meditation in Moscow also had the opportunity to meet with Dr Lynch and Dr Robert Roth, National Director of Expansion for the Global Country of World Peace in the United States, and Vice President of the David Lynch Foundation. More than 70 people attended the meeting, and they were thrilled not only to meet Dr Lynch, but also Dr Roth, whose book about Transcendental Meditation* they deeply appreciate.

In conclusion Dr Shatohin expressed his desire to support the wave of interest generated by Dr David Lynch and create a bright, enlightened future for Russia.
