1 July 2010
First Nations leaders are presenting the programmes of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi at a series of First Nations conferences this year, joined by leaders of the Global Country of World Peace.
Dr Christopher Collrin, director of First Nations programmes in Canada for the Global Country of World Peace, recently reported* on initiatives in this area.
In May, two First Nations leaders and a Transcendental Meditation Teacher presented Maharishi's programmes to an audience of 200 at a First Nations health conference in Ottawa, Dr Collrin said.
They also became acquainted with an expert in First Nations health. He has been studying diabetes in First Nations communities for 20 years, and recently realized that stress plays a significant role in the disease. He was therefore particularly interested in the research of Dr Carolyn King. Dr King has been leading research on the benefits of Transcendental Meditation for diabetes, and the two have spoken several times, Dr Collrin said.
At the end of July, world-renowned quantum physicist Dr John Hagelin,** along with a First Nations leader, and medical doctor Guy-Paul Gagne, will speak with health care professionals who work with a group of First Nations leaders that make recommendations for health programmes.
The conference in July is a key step to participating in an international conference on global health in October, to be attended by over 44 countries. A two-hour presentation will be given by Dr Hagelin, Dr Gagne, and neuroscientist Dr Fred Travis, Director of the Center for Brain, Consciousness, and Cognition at Maharishi University of Management.
Participation in these conferences was organized by a dedicated First Nations leader, Dr Collrin said. First Nations leaders and communities utilizing Maharishi's programmes are deeply appreciative and are doing all they can to share this knowledge with other First Nations communities, he concluded.
* Dr Collrin's report was featured on the 1 July 2010 Maharishi Global Family Chat, broadcast daily via Internet webcast on the Maharishi Channel, Channel 3. Podcasts of the daily Global Family Chat (audio track) are also now available for automatic download, via an RSS feed.
** Dr Hagelin is also President of the David Lynch Foundation; Executive Director of the International Center for Invincible Defense; and Raja of Invincible America for the Global Country of World Peace.
