On 28 August 2010 Greenbay Press-Gazette.com reported: The small rural communities of Fairfield and Maharishi Vedic City, Iowa, USA feature many unique attractions, including international cuisine restaurants, sustainability initiatives that could make it a leader in this field, a spa offering Ayurvedic health care, and twice-daily practice of the Transcendental Meditation Programme by a large group of experts. It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring fulfilment to the field of culture.

The article credits Maharishi University of Management, which offers an undergraduate degree programme in Sustainable Living, for 'inspir[ing] these projects and giv[ing] the area a global reputation.'

'Fairfield's Go Green plan—fueled by an $80,000 state grant to collect data, create a sustainability guide and hire a program coordinator—aims to make the community a nationwide model of sustainability by 2020,' the article states.

A new housing development, Abundance EcoVillage, utilizes solar and wind power as well as rainwater collection to provide off-the-grid living for residents.

'References to health, wellness and Ayurvedic products pop up on signs and storefronts throughout Fairfield's town square,' the article reports. 'In abundance—for the community's size of 9,500—are jewelers, clothing boutiques, health product shops and ethnic eateries.'

Neighbouring Maharishi Vedic City features the internationally renowned Ayurvedic health spa, The Raj, which draws guests from around the globe, including singer Donovan, The Beach Boys' Mike Love, and filmmaker David Lynch.

The Raj offers 'profound detoxification, rejuvenation and balance', including 'the same authentic Ayurvedic treatments used on the royalty of ancient Vedic India,' Raj health educator Graciella Zogbi says in the article.

Ms Zogbi also comments on how the practice of Transcendental Meditation contributes to a better world. 'If you want societal peace,' she tells the Greenbay Press-Gazette, 'you start with individual peace', which is enlivened through Transcendental Meditation.
