Kenya: Transcendental Meditation welcomed by local leadership in Nandi Hills

After leaving Nairobi, Kenya, the tour of Dr Bevan Morris continued on through the Rift Valley and up into the Nandi Hills.

Dr Morris, President of Maharishi University of Management, visited Kenya on his 14-country Golden Jubilee Tour of the African continent, which has been celebrating and promoting the wide range of knowledge and programmes first brought there by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi fifty years ago.

In each country Dr Morris has been meeting with leaders in government and many fields to present the solutions offered by Maharishi's programmes, including Transcendental Meditation, the educational system known as Consciousness-Based Education, and initiatives to create social coherence, harmony, and peace.

Nandi Hills, Kenya is a special place, Dr Morris remarked.

'This is a place where there is really a great concentration of the practice of Transcendental Meditation. We found this place to be a kind of Shangri La. It is a tea-growing area and tea plantations are extremely beautiful.'

He added that the weather seems to be in a state of eternal spring.

Upon arriving, Dr Morris first met with leading residents of Nandi Hills community.

Many in the community practise Transcendental Meditation, he said, and community leaders have expressed the desire for it to be 'a Transcendental Meditation town'.

A government representative for the Nandi Hills area gave a very warm official welcome. She spoke to community members and invited them to take advantage of the knowledge Dr Morris was presenting about Transcendental Meditation and Consciousness-Based Education.

The next morning most of the school principals and top educators in the area came to listen to a lecture by Dr Morris about the benefits that have been found in utilizing Consciousness-Based Education in schools.

Describing the tour recently, he remarked on an unusual, but recurring phenomenon. His presentations are usually scheduled for 1-2 hours, but audiences often become deeply interested in the knowledge and inspired to learn about Maharishi's unprecedented achievements throughout the world, and the meetings can go on for 3 hours or more. Even when the presentation is over, no one in the audience moves. 'People are just soaking it up,' Dr Morris said. 'They just seem so contented,' no one wants to leave.
