Jon Lipman, architect and director of Fortune-Creating Buildings, gave a report recently on the latest construction projects in North America involving Maharishi Vastu architecture. He spoke of four projects in total, including one focused on a Vastu contribution to the small house movement. He also spoke of the largest Vastu project currently underway on the continent.
Maharishi Vedic Village is located in Niagara Falls, Canada, just two miles from the famous waterfalls.
The 90 acres (36 hectares) of land have been owned for many years and various developments have been planned on them. The site was at one time the proposed location of magician Doug Henning's Vedaland project; now it is the site of a large Vastu housing development and tourist resort that is currently under development.
Maharishi Vedic Village will feature a wide range of residences, including stand-alone houses, townhouses, condominiums, and apartments. It will also have a range of facilities, including greenhouses for organic produce, a Maharishi Ayur-Veda health spa, a hotel, a central courtyard, and a cultural centre.
Mr Lipman, an expert in Maharishi Vastu architecture, commented on the property's Vastu attributes, such as orientation of buildings with respect to the sun and location of bodies of water. It is through these and other principles that Vastu buildings are designed to enhance the occupants' connection with Natural Law, thus creating an uplifting and life-supporting effect for everyone who steps into the building.
The land, Mr Lipman said, 'consists of fields and forests and streams and a beautiful river to the north for perfect Vastu, sloping down to the north.' According to the ancient principles of Vastu, a river or body of water to the north is an auspicious characteristic.
In addition to the river's auspicious location on the site, Mr Lipman noted that it connects directly to Niagara Falls, which he described as 'one of the great spiritual, sublime, and beautiful locations in the entire globe'.
