Haris Bilalovic, a popular TV and radio host for the Bosnian Public Broadcasting company, arranged for the recent screening of David Lynch's new documentary in downtown Sarajevo. The documentary, called 'Meditation, Creativity, Peace', premiered to a packed house in Sarajevo's only art house cinema.

The poster for the Bosnian showing of the film—the first in the Balkan region—was designed by young local students of design who were thrilled to be involved in the project.

After the screening of the film, the audience was expecting to have a 'Q & A' (question and answer session) with Bob Roth, executive director of the David Lynch Foundation.

'But what we basically kept as a big surprise was that David Lynch agreed to join us for a Skype Q & A,' said Mr Bilalovic. 'There was this momentum where on the big screen we saw Skype calling David Lynch, and David a few seconds afterward [appeared on the screen]. That resulted in a major standing ovation in Sarajevo that really made David happy and ready to talk to the audience.'

The audience that night was from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina, not just Sarajevo, Mr Bilalovic said, and was made up mainly of students and young professionals.

'The majority of the audience was around 25-30 years old,' the youth of Sarajevo and the region, he said. Many of them were already fans of Mr Lynch's work, but through the documentary they also learned about Transcendental Meditation (TM).

Mr Bilalovic added that just the cinema screening had a tremendous effect on people's interest in Transcendental Meditation, with a group of people who enjoyed the film having called the Transcendental Meditation programme and requested teachers so they could learn the technique.

The screening would help to 'enliven the understanding of meditation', commented a teacher of Transcendental Meditation involved in the region—not only its benefits for the individual, but also its proven effect of increasing coherence and harmony in collective consciousness, which can bring great benefit to Bosnia and Herzegovina and the whole region.
