The April issue of Smithsonian magazine has several very positive references to Vastu architecture, said Jonathan Lipman, AIA, director of Maharishi Vastu architecture programmes for North America.

Mr Lipman described Smithsonian as 'one of the most respected and prestigious magazines in the United States', with a circulation of over 2 million.

It is the publication of the largest museum and research complex in the world, the Smithsonian Institution, which is administered by the United States government.

Mr Lipman had a particular interest in this issue—which also mentions Maharishi University of Management—as he is director of the university's Institute of Maharishi Vedic Architecture, and architect for the reconstruction of its campus, which is being rebuilt entirely according to Vastu principles. The university's website describes him as 'America's pre-eminent practitioner of Vedic architecture'.

Mr Lipman explained that the magazine posts an annual list of the '20 Best Small Towns to Visit' in the United States, and in 2013, the town of Fairfield, Iowa, was ranked number 7 on the list.

In highlighting Maharishi University of Management and Vastu architecture as two among many elements in the magazine's choice of Fairfield for its '20 Best' list, the article notes 'the preference for east-facing front doors'—an important principle of Vastu design.

Mr Lipman pointed out that the 2013 '20 Best' article quickly became the most emailed and recommended on the magazine's website; the corresponding list from 2012 is the second most popular.

'So we can expect for the next year and even longer, that this article will be viewed and emailed prodigiously all around the United States,' he said, noting that it could have a significant impact.

'I think we can expect another great wave of appreciation by the general public in the US, of the special things that Maharishi University of Management, Fairfield, and [neighbouring] Maharishi Vedic City have to offer.'
