US: Living in Maharishi Vedic City - 'an all-around ideal environment'

Maharishi Vedic City in Iowa, USA, offers a remarkable range of amenities that contribute to an ideal quality of life for residents and visitors, according to Mayor Robert Wynne, who gave a recent update on initiatives to expand the city's many opportunities even further.

These include the stellar success of organic greenhouse farming, new Maharishi Vastu housing options, Consciousness-Based Education opportunities, Ayur-Vedic health care, and an environment conducive not only to rapid development of full human potential but also to generating coherence in national consciousness.

Vedic organic produce
In the 10 years since city established its large organic greenhouse, it has become a source of abundant fresh Vedic Organic produce for the community and whole surrounding area.

Once the greenhouse was put into operation the city started a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programme. Maharishi Vedic City Community Supported Agriculture (MVCCSA) is unique in Iowa. Due to its 80,000 square feet (7,432 square metres) of greenhouse space, the programme is able to offer top quality, certified organic, greenhouse grown produce starting earlier in the spring and continuting later into the autumn than other local growers. For people participating in the MVCCSA the produce could not be more 'local'. The greenhouse is also unique in applying the knowledge of Maharishi Vedic Agriculture to ensure the highest quality produce.

At the time of Mayor Wynne's report, the greenhouse was full to overflowing with healthy, hardy cucumbers and other vegetables in season. Six-foot (1.8-metre) tall staked cucumber vines were being harvested regularly, and each week nearly 600 pounds (672 kilograms) of cucumbers was being distributed locally and shipped to health food stores. A team of two runs the operation—the manager, a young man from Guatemala, in charge of daily activities of planting, fertilizing, and harvesting; and a sales representative focusing on sales and distribution.

Consciousness-Based Education
Maharishi Vedic City offers Consciousness-Based Education opportunities, starting with kindergarten at Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment, all the way through master's and PhD degrees at Maharishi University of Management.

Maharishi Ayur-Veda natural health care
Maharishi Vedic City is home to Maharishi University of Management's Institute for Natural Medicine and Prevention—the leading institution for prevention and treatment of disease using the natural, side-effect-free health care approach brought to light by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi from the Vedic literature. Its research programmes are extensively supported by the National Institutes of Health of the US government. Nearby is The Raj, America's premiere Maharishi Ayur-Veda health centre and spa, offering consultations and a variety of treatments to balance and rejuvenate the physiology.
