Transcendental Meditation is being featured prominently at a large three-day event in New York City this weekend commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Beatles' first visit to the USA in February 1964. The organization was invited to participate in the festival in recognition of the profound effect the Transcendental Meditation programme and meeting with its Founder, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, had on the Beatles' music and their lives.

Eight thousand people from around the world were expected to attend the New York venue of The Fest for Beatles Fans 2014, at the Grand Hyatt in Manhattan, 7-9 February. The event culminates Sunday, 9 February, the 50th anniversary of the Beatles' appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show, an event acknowledged to have had a great and lasting impact on American music and culture.

The New York Transcendental Meditation organization has hosted a booth at the event throughout the weekend, as well as a number of introductory lectures on the TM® technique.

Special guests at the festival include Prudence Farrow Bruns—the subject of the Beatles' song 'Dear Prudence'. Dr Bruns, a Sanskrit scholar and certified teacher of the Transcendental Meditation technique, has been speaking at this weekend's event about her experience attending the Transcendental Meditation Teacher Training course with the Beatles in Rishikesh, India, in a four-part lecture titled 'The Dear Prudence Story'.*

Legendary singer-songwriter Donovan has also been participating in the festival through the weekend, performing in concert and giving a talk on 'Meditation and the White Album', joined for a Q & A by Prudence Farrow Bruns. Regarded as a friend and musical peer, Donovan accompanied the Beatles on their spiritual quest to India.

In April 2009, Donovan reunited with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr at a benefit concert in New York City—the first annual 'Change Begins Within' gala supporting the David Lynch Foundation's programmes teaching Transcendental Meditation to veterans and first-responders suffering from PTSD, at-risk students, and women and children who are survivors of domestic violence.

* Dr Bruns also spoke on this topic last spring at a conference on 'Our Conscious Future' at Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa, USA. (A brief video preview of her talk at that conference is featured online, on the home page of ConsciousnessTalks.org; the full talk will appear in the conference series on that site.)

Introductory talks on the Transcendental Meditation programme are held weekly at two offices in New York City. Click here for more information about Transcendental Meditation in the New York metro region.
