Japan: Homes combine traditional Japanese elements with benefits of Maharishi Vastu architecture

The first of three Vastu buildings in Japan featured in the current Maharishi Vastu* newsletter was built in 2008. It is one of two private homes in Ryugasaki, northeast of Tokyo, that have been designed and built according to Maharishi Vastu architecture.

From the extensive photo album on Facebook^® about these three structures, you can see how the design has combined a typical Japanese-style home of approximately 153 sm (1640 sf) with the benefits of Maharishi Vastu architecture.

This first home has a ceramic roof, Japanese earthen walls, and beautiful wood throughout. The use of natural, local materials is integral, and ideal in Maharishi Vastu homes. Some of the traditional features include a Japanese style tearoom with tatami floor, fusuma screens, and shoji doors.

You also see how sunlight floods the entryway all the way to the Brahmasthan** and beyond on both levels. This brings the nourishing effects of early morning sun into much of the house. The Vastu gate is a solid stone structure at its base, with wood posts and pickets on top; a very substantial fence such as this is ideal. And even on a small lot such as this, it can be accomplished.

The owner of the house has related his experience of living in the house: ''I am feeling bliss when coming into my Vastu home. On fine days the comfortable sunlight enters into the Brahmasthan hall through the big window above the entrance in the morning. I call the hall 'Here Comes the Sun' hall, because I am a big fan of the Beatles' songs. I often welcome my guests in a Japanese style tearoom. In this house, I feel hopeful and sacred energy. I can experience serenity, creativity, wisdom and silence, all at the same time. Also I feel supported by nature. This home is not only a healthy building but also helps me to think and contribute to our world and environment in a positive way.

''Since visiting Fairfield, Iowa, USA in 2008, I resolved to build a Vastu community here for creating a better and peaceful world. The third Vastu home has just been completed this November. We call our village TATSUNOKO in honor of the mountain nearby.''
