Maharishi University of Management recently signed an agreement with the Beijing Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture to offer bachelor's degrees to Chinese students.

'The president of Beijing Institute was impressed with our educational methods and results and has asked us to provide training for his faculty,' said Zhu Yunxiang, associate dean of Asian expansion.

This new agreement also includes the University's other China partner, International Business School of Yanjing Overseas Chinese University. As in the past, Yanjing will offer the first two years of an undergraduate degree, and the other partner universities will offer the third and fourth years.

Students enrolled by Maharishi University of Management either will enroll in a dual-degree program and receive degrees from both Beijing Institute and Maharishi University of Management, or they will simply enroll in Maharishi University of Management.

According to Dr. Heaton, dual-degree programs are offered at other locations in China and are considered to be a prestigious credential.

The three parties aim to enroll 200 students this fall in underclass dual-degree programs. In addition, Beijing Institute and Yanjing together aim to recruit another 200 students in China for the single degree program offered by Maharishi University of Management.

Both the single and dual-degree programs will be taught in English at the Yanjing campus. The dual-degree programs will offer curriculum specializations that have not previously been available at Beijing Institute: a business degree specializing in accounting and a computer science degree specializing in management of information technology.

Through the efforts of Yanjing and Beijing Institute, these dual-degree programs received approval last December from the Academic Committee of the State Department of China, which means that the above-mentioned Maharishi University of Management degrees are now officially recognized by the Chinese government. The joint Beijing Institute/Maharishi University of Management degree will be among those listed in materials received by Chinese students who apply for the yearly nationwide entrance examination.
