On 3 March 2005 Des Moines Register reported: Maharishi Vedic City has announced its hopes to open a city university by the fall of this year, according to town officials. The university will offer classes in preventive medicine, meditation, organic agriculture, the town's style of architecture - Maharishi Sthapatya Veda, and world peace. It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring fulfilment to the field of education.

Maureen Wynne, the city attorney and an organizer for the university, told the Des Moines Register that the city is currently developing curricula and acquiring a site for a 400-acre campus within the city limits. Initially classes are expected to be offered in existing town buildings. Wynne said that the university hopes to be accredited by the same group that endorses most universities in Iowa.

Maharishi Vedic City University, which was established under a city ordinance last year, will be Iowa's only city-run four-year college.

The article pointed out that city colleges are not currently a popular trend in terms of educational institutions. According to the president at the American Council on Education, no such college has been established in recent memory.

Then again, the writer noted, 'Maharishi Vedic City is a bit out of the ordinary.' The article went on to describe the unique features of the city, including designating Sanskrit as the official city language, outlawing the sale of non-organic food, and insisting that all buildings face east.

According to the article, because state law does not recognize city universities, a bill is now before the Iowa Legislature that would exempt the university from registering with the Iowa secretary of state's office, a requirement for many institutions that are neither state-supported nor private.

Every day Global Good News documents the rise of a better quality of life dawning in the world and highlights the need for introducing Natural Law based—Total Knowledge based—programmes to bring the support of Nature to every individual, raise the quality of life of every society, and create a lasting state of world peace.
