David Lynch, Dr Fred Travis, and Dr John Hagelin just completed their West Coast tour of six universities where they spoke to thousands of students on 'Consciousness, Creativity, and the Brain'. Here is a brief report of the extraordinary successes of this most recent tour, where interest in Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation Programme and Consciousness-Based Education among students, faculty, the public, and the press continued to grow exponentially.

The first stop on the tour was the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, where 1,200 students filled the spectacular Bovard Auditorium to standing-room only. The hall was electric with excitement, with students asking deep, probing questions about the nature of life and consciousness, and how Transcendental Meditation can be used to unfold the inner creative genius of every person, and to create harmony and coherence in world consciousness—the basis of permanent peace in the family of nations.

The second university on the tour was at the University of California in San Diego, where 1,000 students packed the Price Center Ballroom. Afterwards, one of the deans of the university praised the presentation, saying that it provided students with the 'knowledge and tools they will need in life to live their full potential and create a world of peace'.

Next, at the University of California at Irvine, students lined up four hours in advance to get seats for the presentation, packing the Crystal Cove Auditorium, plus an overflow hall where the talk was broadcast live via closed-circuit TV. University chancellors, deans, and department chairs attended the presentation along with their students, as did local philanthropists and heads of foundations. In addition, 400 people at Portland State University in Oregon watched the event live via internet webcast and responded powerfully and positively to the talks.

The next day they spoke to a packed-house of 750 students in Wheeler Auditorium at the University of California at Berkeley. The sincere, probing questions from the students brought out deep knowledge of consciousness, and the practical benefits to daily life of rising to enlightenment. At the University of Washington in Seattle, a standing-room only crowd of 750 students jammed the Kane Auditorium to hear the presentation—with 400 more students filling an overflow hall that was connected by closed circuit TV. This event was also webcast to many hundreds of students at satellite campuses of the University of Washington throughout the state. The feeling in the hall was just electric. The Dean of the School of Education delivered the welcoming remarks—offering words of great respect and praise for Maharishi's knowledge.

The final presentation was to a standing-room-only audience of 700 students in the Columbia Hall at the University of Oregon in Eugene—with 700 more students filling a nearby hall connected by videoconference. The head of the film department at the University of Oregon said that the presentation on Consciousness, Creativity, and the Brain had created the most intense interest and excitement on the University of Oregon campus that she had ever seen.

NBC TV in Los Angeles featured a three-minute news report about David Lynch and his efforts to bring peace to the world through Consciousness-Based Education.

For a long time, Maharishi has been saying that the darkness of the night is ending and the first rays of the morning sun are rising. Those who were fortunate to participate in this tour and witness the overwhelming positive response by so many thousands of young people to the message of diving within through Transcendental Meditation to develop consciousness, creativity, and the brain, were supremely privileged to see firsthand the concrete signs of the first rays of that dawning sun.

The speakers were deeply satisfied by the enthusiastic response of the coming generation, and are doing everything possible to bring the Transcendental Meditation programme to the young people of America and throughout the world—to create a better world, free from problems, negativity and suffering, a world of all good, all health, peace and harmony for everyone.

This completes Phase One of the plan to create the awareness and deep desire for enlightenment and total brain development—and a renewed hope for peace in the family of nations.

Phase Two will be to deliver the experience of enlightenment to all these thousands of young people, and to create groups of peace-creating experts on all these campuses—and to establish dedicated colleges and Universities of World Peace—Vedic Universities that will bring peace and enlightenment to this new generation, and to the world.
