The latest phase of campus reconstruction has culminated in extensive renovation over the past eight months, and now the focus shifts to constructing the Student Center, demolishing fraternity buildings, and constructing more vastu student residences in their place.

Renovations in recent months have included building the outside dining area, finishing the Recreation Center locker rooms, repaving many campus roads, installing new sidewalks, repairing sidewalks, removing the old stadium seats and berm, regrading and reseeding the soccer field, repairing outdoor lighting, and installing new outdoor lights.

The demolition of old buildings has been a boon for the University, says Brad Mylett, director of special projects. In the past, a large portion of the University's budget went toward repairing dilapidated buildings— expenditures that were largely invisible to campus residents.

'Now that so many of those buildings are gone, funds can go to things people really enjoy, such as the roads,' Mr. Mylett said. 'I've been here a long time, and I've never seen so much going on.'

Footings for the Student Center are now in, and completion is targeted for spring of 2007, at which time the old kitchen and dining hall will be razed.

More demolition is also planned, with three fraternity buildings expected to be razed in the coming year. The site will eventually be used for student residence halls constructed according to principles of Maharishi Vedic(SM) Architecture.
