Those interested in learning the Transcendental Meditation Technique are now eligible to receive a private student loan from Citibank and can earn two units of credit from Maharishi University of Management.

According to Registrar Tom Rowe, since this opportunity was made available late last fall, he has received 25 applications, and the rate is steadily increasing.

The units can be used as transfer credit by students at schools around the country, and can also be used for professional development credit.

The course, titled 'The Transcendental Meditation Program: Developing Total Brain Potential' and offered over a three-month period, entails seven steps of instruction, two advanced lectures, and seven personal checkings of the correct practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique. Students can enroll either for undergraduate or graduate credit.

Staff member Peter Freund is preparing a DVD of advanced lectures that will be used as part of the course.

Mr. Rowe said that the Maharishi Enlightenment Centers and Maharishi Peace Palaces have been very enthusiastic about this new opportunity because it makes it easier for students to learn the practice. Rather than paying the $2,500 tuition all at once, they can pay $50 a month.

'I look forward to checking my e-mail every day, because the rate of applications is picking up,' Mr. Rowe said. 'We've received applications from around the country, from Maine to California.'

He said that the University is hoping that many of these students will eventually inquire about attending Maharishi University of Management.

The application, which takes only five minutes to complete, is available on the Internet at http://www.mum.edu/tmcourse.

Mr. Rowe said that the strong followup that is part of the course will insure that those who participate are well established in the practice. This will lead to their greater participation in the activities at their regional centers, which ultimately contributes to the success of the University.

Anyone can take the course, which is jointly sponsored by Maharishi University of Management and the local Maharishi Peace Palace or Maharishi Enlightenment Center.

The loan rate floats with the prime rate, and depends on the credit status of the borrower (or co-signer if applicable).

A similar loan program is expected to be available in the coming months for the TM-Sidhi program and the Science of Creative Intelligence course.
