Maharishi Upper School students recently received four awards in a national photography contest.

There were 2,560 prints entered from 37 high schools. The judges acknowledged the high quality of work entered. 'The competition was incredible,' they said. Also, the high level of design, composition, and conceptualization involved in the imagery impressed the judges.

The competition, titled the 2006 Texas A&M University-Commerce Third Floor Photographic Society High School Shoot-Out, was held during the ATPI winter conference in Austin, Texas. The annual contest is sponsored by the Third Floor Photographic Society, a student organization of the University's Photography Division. The Texas A&M Photography Division is widely recognized as the best photography program in the Southwest.

The winning students are:

• Lane Weaver, grade 10, second place in first year black and white

• David Fulcher, grade 10, second place in all years sports color

• Molly Brooks, grade 12, third place in all years open color

• Toby Briggs, grade 11, honorable mention in first year color
