On 18 September 2006 The Los Angeles Times reported: At a conference on 'Consciousness, Creativity, and the Brain', held at Maharishi University of Management, a Los Angeles Times writer, Carina Chocano, discovered Maharishi Vedic City, and a new lifestyle for the 21st century. The conference, which featured [quantum physicist] John Hagelin and film director David Lynch as keynote speakers, was held on the campus of Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa, USA.

At the conference, Chocano listened 'to talks on the relationship between quantum physics and peace-creating energy fields, and watching the brain waves of a young student of meditation hooked up to an EEG ...'

She noted that the conference was the last in a 12-campus tour that introduced college students to Transcendental Meditation, and also promoted David Lynch's new scholarship program, 'The David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace.'

During the conference, Chocano stayed at the Raj, [Maharishi Ayur-Veda Health Spa and Hotel] located in Iowa's newly incorporated Maharishi Vedic City, which also is the home to the North American capital of the Global Country of World Peace.

The Times reporter also took a tour of Fairfield and Maharishi Vedic City, noting the many ethnic restaurants, organic grocery, and Maharishi Sthapatya Veda architecture.

Chocano explained that 'Vedic City grew around the school [MUM], incorporating in 2001. 'Vedic' refers to 'Veda,' the Sanskrit word for 'knowledge,'...' She goes on to say, 'The 'complete Vedic science of consciousness' encompasses architecture, education, health, agriculture, administration, economy and defence.'

She said, '... Vedic City wants you to visit. It believes in the creativity-enhancing, stress-reducing, intelligence-increasing, health-promoting and world-peace-increasing properties of TM ....'

She learned that Maharishi Vedic City 'has big plans for expansion, for attracting tourists and potential meditators. Mayor Bob Wynne (a longtime meditator) has said that the idea is to expand to 1,200 residents by 2010, and eventually reach up to 10,000. Since it incorporated, the city has purchased more than 100 acres of farmland, which someday will be the site of a theme park, a golf course and botanical gardens.'

The journalist reported that at the end of the 'Consciousness, Creativity, and the Brain' conference David Lynch asked conference-goers for questions. Questions revolved around understanding creativity and 'what releases creativity, what its limits are.'

The article quoted David Lynch as saying, '...Maharishi Mahesh Yogi talks about an ocean of creativity and consciousness. Then modern science says it's true—everything that is emerges from this thing. Quantum physics and the unified field.'

From LAX, Delta, American, United and Northwest have connecting service (change of planes) to the Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids. Restricted round-trip fares begin at $314.
