53 computer students arrive from 16 different countries, over 450 now enrolled
The M.U.M. Review Maharishi University of Management, Iowa, USA Translate This Article
4 April 2007
The University's already diverse student body became even more so in February, when 53 students arrived from 16 different countries, including Algeria, Armenia, Eritrea, Macedonia, and Senegal, to study in the M.S. in computer science. There are now over 450 students enrolled in the Computer Professionals Program.
Other countries in the February group include Bulgaria, Cambodia, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam. Greg Clarke-Johnsen, director of computer science admissions, says he can't explain why this particular group of students was so diverse.
The program currently has 118 students enrolled on campus and has grown so large that the rooms in the McLaughlin Building now have to double as both computer labs and classrooms, rather than having separate facilities for each as in the past. 'We've basically got a full house,' Mr. Clarke-Johnsen said.
Students are placed in paid practicum training positions after spending at least 7.5 months taking courses on campus. The students then complete their academic work via distance education while also receiving credit for the practicum work.
The total number of Computer Professionals students, including those on campus and those currently in practicum positions, is over 450.
The program has enrolled a total of 938 students in its history, and over 100 graduates and practicum students are now working at Microsoft.
