Tour inspires European educators
by Global Good News staff writer

14 April 2007
Midway through a tour of ten European countries, Dr Ashley Deans visited MERU, Holland, where he spoke to a global audience via satellite broadcast. For the past sixteen years, Dr Deans has been Director of Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment in Fairfield, Iowa, USA, an award-winning school that has successfully implemented Consciousness-Based Education.
Commenting on the enthusiastic response to the tour so far, Dr Deans cited key points which educators find of particular interest: - research published in over 100 peer-reviewed academic journals documents many benefits such as increased intelligence and creativity, reduced stress and anxiety, and decreased use of drugs and alcohol; - development of the full potential of consciousness of the student is a missing element in education today; - total brain development is a possibility through Transcendental Meditation. Teachers had not previously considered education in terms of developing the student's brain, or realized that education can actually damage the brain if it does not develop total brain functioning.
The presentation gives educators an overview of what is missing in their schools and why they should introduce Consciousness-Based Education.
Teachers also appreciated the concept that reducing stress in the individual can reduce societal stress. They could see the possibility of creating invincibility in their countries through their students, who could become 'lighthouses of wisdom' by practising Transcendental Meditation.
Following visits to Spain, Portugal, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Ireland, Dr Deans proceeds on to Turkey, Belgium, Finland, and Scotland.
