Dr Bevan Morris on the role of architecture in Education for Enlightenment - Part IV

Dr Bevan Morris, Prime Minister of the Global Country of World Peace, and President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Maharishi University of Management in Iowa USA, concluded last week's press conference on Education for Enlightenment with a discussion on the role of Vedic Architecture in Consciousness-Based Education.

'We have a very strong principle in building our educational institutions,' said Dr Morris, 'that they should be built according to the most profound architectural system, which creates fortune-creating buildings. That is the Vedic Architecture system, which calls, among others things, for every building to be aligned to the true directions—north, south, east, and west—not tilted at an angle to the true directions; to have either an auspicious east or north entrance; and not to use other inauspicious directions for the entrance.

Furthermore, Dr Morris said, buildings should be built in such a way that the educational activity inside the building is always nourished by the qualities of Natural Law—the sun, moon, planets, and stars; everything within the building is in balance; and everyone is feeling happy, healthy, and experiencing good fortune from the building.

'This is also important for education in the world today,' he said. 'Rebuild the schools, colleges, and universities everywhere to take advantage of this knowledge. Because how could we give to our children misfortune-creating buildings? —buildings that make them sick. No parent or educator would want their children to face that totally unnecessary obstacle of a wrong building.'

We give the greatest honour, Dr Morris said, to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the founder of this system, who has brought it from his own tradition, the Vedic tradition of India, where it has existed through the long history of the world. In this system Maharishi goes deep into the level of experience that the students are able to have, experiences comparable to the greatest sages in the history of the world.

The students are experiencing life in terms of 'bliss becoming blissful'—Ananda mayo abhyasat—from the Brahma Sutras. They are experiencing life on the level of the waves of their own inner bliss, which is the origin of the entire universe. So this is the level of experience on the heights of human possibility, the pinnacle of human experience. The ultimate expression of success and fulfilment of this Consciousness-Based Education is in a simple Vedic expression—Aham Brahmasmi—I am the Totality. This is the level of Total Knowledge captured in the consciousness of the student.

'As students rise in higher states of consciousness—Transcendental Consciousness, Cosmic Consciousness, God Consciousness, to Unity Consciousness—the seventh state of human Consciousness,' explained Dr Morris, 'they experience the reality that ''I am the field of Infinite silence—I am the infinite dynamism that flows in the field of infinite silence'' in the form of sound and gap, and sound and gap—which embodies the Veda, the Constitution of the Universe. There is an expression for this which Maharishi tells all students from the Vedic tradition:
Yatinam Brahma bhavati sarathih, which means, ''for those who are on that enlightened level of consciousness, all the Laws of Nature that administer the universe become the charioteer of their activity, carry out their desires and bring them to fulfilment.''

'A world is dawning where every individual lives with that power, where every deed is fulfilled, every desire is fulfilled, even before it could even arise—everything is there that is needed for a fulfilled blissful successful life. This is the new age where education everywhere, for every child of every race, culture, and religion in the world, will be able to live on that level, the whole world will enjoy permanent peace, and everyone on earth will feel ''I am just living in Heaven,'' ' said Dr Morris. And all this, by doing what is easiest in education, the most joyous, peaceful path for all educators, parents, and children.

Dr Morris concluded by encouraging everyone to take advantage of this great gift of Consciousness-Based Education in the world. 'You'll never regret it,' he said, 'and you'll look back on that decision as the greatest decision you ever made in your whole life—not only as an educator but for your nation and for your own self.'
