Dr Bevan Morris, Prime Minister of the Global Country of World Peace, and President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Maharishi University of Management in Iowa, USA, continued his presentation to the global Press Conference last week on Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's knowledge and programmes of Education for Enlightenment through development of total brain functioning.

Enlightenment, Dr Morris said, means 'the awakening of this powerhouse in the field of consciousness of every student. It is as if, up to now, an individual was walking in his house and feeling poor, when beneath the floorboards was a hidden treasure, waiting to be taken out and enjoyed. Similarly, in education, it has all been superficial fragmented study, and this hidden treasure in the consciousness of the student had been totally ignored all these years.

'Now, that kind of education ends', Dr Morris said, 'and Consciousness-Based Education begins, everywhere in the world. This is a phenomenon which is measurable through scientific studies, and this research has been going on for some 37 years with over 600 research studies, showing:
- increased intelligence and learning ability,
- improved academic performance,
- increased creativity,
- total brain functioning,
- improved attention capacity,
- improved mind-body co-ordination,
- increased organizational ability,
- increased energy,
- improved health,
- increased integration of the personality,
- reduction in negative personality characteristics,
- improved social behaviour,
- improved cognitive processing and behaviour among students in special or remedial education, and
- benefits for the teachers as well.

Dr Morris encouraged any serious-minded person to examine the research and decide whether we are, in fact, going to now have an objective approach to what is most successful in the field of education. 'Do you think rationally about what is best in education?' asked Dr Morris, '—and if you feel that the answer is yes, then read this research. Experience these schools first hand and know that the time has come for the old fragmented system of education to be replaced worldwide by Consciousness-Based Education.'

Anyone who has ever visited a school or any university that has introduced Consciousness-Based Education is always astonished, when they enter a classroom of students who are awakening their total brain functioning, Dr Morris said—not only by the alertness of everyone in the room, but also their enthusiasm for knowledge, the healthy glow and vitality they manifest, their kindness and softness to each other and to their teachers, and the universal spirit that manifests in such students. 'All this indicates', he said, 'that a whole new generation of leadership in the world is emerging from Consciousness-Based Education today.

Consciousness-Based Education is now being introduced extensively into existing school systems under the patronage of the David Lynch Foundation. Wherever students have learned Transcendental Meditation in these schools and begun to take a Unified Field-based approach, these kind of transformations are witnessed, even in environments which are filled with stress and violence.

In any school, however stressed up to now, Dr Morris emphasized that it is easy to become a Consciousness-Based school or university. All it requires is the practice of Transcendental Meditation integrated into the daily routine, and the study of Total Knowledge to go along with the fragmented fields of study that are already there. Total Knowledge means that from the intellectual level also, students should know that all fields of knowledge have their origin in a single universal field of intelligence.

That field is directly experienced by the students during their practice of Transcendental Meditation, Dr Morris said. This pairing of the intellectual side with the experiential side—and these two things together added to the existing system—will ensure that the whole system flourishes and brings all the qualities that every parent, educator, and government aspires to in their educational system.

This is the Total Knowledge approach, he explained Dr Morris—having the understanding and the experience both together of the Unified Field, which is the field of Total Knowledge of all fields of life, of all fields of study, all fields of Natural Law, all aspects of the universe. There is an expression for this kind of education in the Vedic tradition. It is called Shiksha—unfoldment. So education should be unfoldment, and even in English, the word 'education' comes from a similar Latin root 'to draw out what is hidden'. This Unified Field is what has been hidden from view from the students in modern education—but now it is being unfolded by the students themselves in their own lives through this educational system.

Parts III and IV of this series on Dr Morris's presentation will be featured in Global Good News in the coming days.
