Maharishi School in England recently announced their achievements of the last few years.
Poetry Successes
December 2006 Children's Poetry Book-Shelf 'Write-A-Poem' competition Helene Lambert was invited to London as a 3rd prize winner of this competition. Helene's winning poem is included in the winners anthology and also on the Children's Poetry website (www.childrenspoetrybookshelf.co.uk).
Autumn 2006 2006 Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award organised by the Poetry Society Rebecca Broome, Paul Evans & Emily Mercer were among 100 winners. They were invited to the prize giving at the Globe Theatre in London on National Poetry Day, 5 October. There were nearly 10,000 entries from students internationally.
Manchester Metropolitan University 'All Write' competition Esme Walker, Arthur Mercer, Paul Evans, Rebecca Broome and Dakshina Scott were among the winners. Their work will be published in an anthology available in bookshops.
Autumn 2005 Foyle Young Poets Awards (Poetry Society) Kye Dorricott (Year 10) - highly commended and Ruth Yates (former pupil) - highly commended. This competition for 11-18 year olds is now international, with over 8,000 entrants, including USA undergraduates in Creative Writing.
Ottakars Poetry Competition (Regional) Kye Dorricott - age category winner; Rebecca Broome (Year 9) - runner-up; Agnes Lambert (Year 9) - highly commended; Esme Walker (Year 9) - highly commended.
International Foyle Young Poet of the Year Awards organised by the Poetry Society The following pupils were among the 100 winners of this competiton: Rebecca Broome, Paul Evans, Tom Escott, Emily Mercer and Eleana Orr. They were invited to a celebration party in London in the Royal Festival Hall on National Poetry Day, 6th October 2005. There were over 5000 entries.
Creative Writing competition organised by Manchester Metropolitan University Rebecca Broome, Paul Evans, Agnes Lambert, Emily Mercer and Eleanor Orr were among the winners of the competiton. Their poems were published in MUSE, the creative writing journal, available from bookshops. The winners were invited to attend a launch of the journal and a workshop with a 'celebrity writer.'
1998-2005 Foyle Young Poet of the Year Awards (formerly known as the Simon Elvin Young Poet of the Year Awards) organised by the Poetry Society Our pupils are regularly winners and runners-up. In total, we have had twelve winners and forty-six pupils whose poems were highly commended. All winners attended a residential poetry writing course run by the poets who judged the competition, and had their poems published in winners' anthologies by the Poetry Society.
Over 7,000 entries from throughout the world. Winners and commended poets attend a prize giving in the Royal Festival Hall on National Poetry Day.
