Maharishi School in England recently announced their achievements over the past few years.
UK Intermediate Mathematical Challenge (for pupils in Years 9, 10, and 11)
February 2007 Over 202,000 students entered the competition this year, and these will have been the best out of a student population of more than three million from England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, Years 9, 10, & 11.
This year Maharishi School students excelled more than ever before, winning two Gold, three Silver, and three Bronze awards.
Dakshina Scott (Year 11) and Paul Evans (Year 11) both received Gold Certificates. Lillah Kennedy (Year 11), Rebecca Broome (Year 11) and Arthur Mercer (Year 10) received Silver Certificates. Jennifer Hayward (Year 11), Alice Renwick (Year 10) and Kit Harding (Year 11) will receive Bronze Certificates.
It is difficult for most adults to appreciate the levels of mathematical ability all these students have demonstrated. Their achievements are quite exceptional.
February 2006 200,000 students entered this competition. The top 6% qualify for a Gold Certificate and those in the top seven to 14 per cent are awarded a Silver Certificate.
Year 11 - Bronze: Emily Mercer & Sam Kerwin. Year 10 - Gold: Paul Evans. Bronze: Agnes Lambert & Dakshina Scott. Year 09 - Siver: Arthur Mercer. Bronze: Helen Jackson. Year 07 - Bronze: Jonathan Jedrczak (note that the competition is not intended for Year 7 pupils).
February 2005 Year 11 - Silver: Sophie Renwick. Year 10 - Silver: Emily Mercer. Year 09 - Bronze: Paul Evans, Kit Harding, Lillah Kennedy, Agnes Lambert, Dakshina Scott.
UK Junior Maths Challenge (for Year 7 & 8 pupils) May 2006 Year 8 - Silver: Ruth Ingram & Molly Deary. Bronze: Freddie Fuller. Year 7 - Silver: Jed O'Connor & Jonathon Jedrczak. Bronze: Jennifer White.
May 2005 240,000 entries nationally. Gold certificates are awarded to the top 6%, Silver 7-14% and Bronze 15-20%. Year 8 - Silver: Christopher Evans (1 mark below a gold award) & Helen Jackson. Bronze: Arthur Mercer Year 7 - Silver: Ruth Ingram. Bronze: Raphael Burne, Molly Deary & Abraham Rossiter.
April 2004 Year 8 - Gold: Paul Evans. Silver: Lillah Kennedy & Dakshina Scott. Year 7 - Bronze: Arthur Mercer.
April 2003 Year 8 - Gold: Emily Mercer. Silver: Maud Ashton. Year 7 - Gold: Paul Evans. Bronze: Dakshina Scott.
Salters' Festivals of Chemistry 2004 46 Festivals were held in 2004 with students from all over the UK & Ireland travelling to their local university to enjoy a fun day of practical Chemistry. Teams from over 700 schools participated in the Festivals. A team of 4 pupils from the Maharishi School in Years 7 and 8 participated and came in first in the University Challenge competition.
