US media reports reveal rising appreciation for Maharishi's programmes

Increasing numbers of Americans are recognizing the value of Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation Programme, as evidenced by widespread media coverage of the programme's benefits to health, education, and many other areas of life.
Dr Robert Roth, National Director of Expansion for the Global Country of World Peace in the United States, reported on this trend on 16 December, showcasing several articles appearing in US newspapers during the previous week.
He read highlights from a recent Arizona Daily Star newspaper article, covering a school project led by Transcendental Meditation Teachers Joseph and Denise Gerace. In the article, headlined 'School sees quiet gains as its students meditate', the school principal lauds the Transcendental Meditation Programme as 'essential to every child in every school across the nation.' The principal adds that for the most vulnerable students, those who are bombarded by drugs and violence within their neighborhoods, the Transcendental Meditation Programme provides a vital chance to quiet the brain. 'It's amazing to see the results,' he said.
Another article was from the Steamboat Springs Pilot of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, reporting on initiatives to introduce Transcendental Meditation into one of the city's private schools. The press sought out this school after its principal attended the third annual National Summit on Student Health and Education, 'Quiet Time in the Classroom' held in New York City in October. Dr Roth read an excerpt which said the school principal 'has seen first-hand the success of a new teaching method that uses TM to instill concentration and focus in the school's 5th-8th grade classes.' The article quoted the principal in saying, 'I felt that if we didn't do this in our school, it would be a disservice to our students. We decided to give it a two-year trial to see how it would help, and we've already seen a difference in just a few days.' She went on to say that parents reported lower stress at home, and students have become better test-takers. 'One of our goals, really,' said the principal, 'is to spread TM throughout the county—and the world—to as many children as possible.'
Lastly, Dr Roth described a report from Parade Magazine, which is inserted once a week into millions of newspapers across the country. In the article, titled 'Alternative therapies that really work', a physician outlined the many benefits of the Transcendental Meditation Programme as a prime example of effective alternative health practice. The article states that Transcendental Meditation is the most popular method of meditation, creating inner calm among many other benefits. Brainwave patterns of TM practitioners have been shown to be slower and focused, with synchronization of activity in different parts of the brain. Research also 'indicates that TM may have positive effects on blood pressure, insulin, blood sugar, and heart health. It can also improve concentration, reduce anxiety, and help with post traumatic stress', the article stated.
Dr Roth commented that all the articles came out independently from any Global Country of World Peace initiatives; the reporters themselves took the initiative to research Transcendental Meditation. 'The world is pulling knowledge from us, without our having to push,' he said.
'What we're seeing is an upwelling of interest' in the programmes and knowledge of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi—'a growing appreciation for the deep aspects of life,' Dr Roth explained. 'Values of invincibility have penetrated into the collective consciousness, and the press is now spontaneously mirroring that shifting of values in the US.'
