On 31 March 2009 the Concord Monitor reported: A unique boarding school--Maharishi Academy of Total Knowledge--will open this fall on the campus of a former college in the foothills of Antrim, New Hampshire, USA. It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring fulfilment to the field of education.

The Maharishi Academy of Total Knowledge expects to start later this year with only a few students but will eventually grow to have 400 high school boys. The founders of the school will use Transcendental Meditation to improve academic achievement.

The Concord Monitor quoted headmaster Mr Alan Colby as saying, 'Meditation and healthy living keep students' nervous systems happy and ready to learn. There's also evidence that meditation increases creativity and self-esteem and decreases the likelihood of anxiety and substance abuse.'

Transcendental Meditation wakes up the young students, Mr Colby also said in the article. 'It doesn't train them to be someone they're not. It wakes them up to who they are. It relieves the stress in the nervous system.'

Scientific studies have shown that Transcendental Meditation helps clarify thought and makes the brain work more effectively. It has been used in business organizations and in prisons for rehabilitation, the article stated.

The founder of Transcendental Meditation, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, conceived of the school. The campus was acquired about ten years ago, but until recent renovations, was used mainly for shorter courses.

Once school starts, the students will eat organic vegetarian food on campus, and will practise Transcendental Meditation twice a day as part of their daily routine.

The Concord Monitor said that 'like most lifelong educators, Colby champions the power of good teachers, good curricula, and well-run schools, but he's also spent the past quarter century promoting Transcendental Meditation as a way to prime students to learn. Before moving to New Hampshire, he led a popular Maharishi day school in Iowa that became a model for similar programs around the world.'
