Students and teachers say Transcendental Meditation transforms schools, communities

The David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace has allowed students around the world to enjoy the wide-ranging benefits of the Transcendental Meditation Programme.

A video shown at a major press conference* on 3 April in New York City, USA, presented comments from teachers and students who expressed how profoundly the Transcendental Meditation Programme has impacted their schools, communities, and their own lives.

The video described the extreme stress level of students living with violence at school and numerous murders in the neighbourhood. The students said they couldn't concentrate, and they were often angry and frustrated.

'And then they introduce this technique where the student can dive within, and enliven that inner happiness, inner intelligence, inner creativity and love, and they see the problems start evaporating,' said renowned filmmaker David Lynch on the video.

After introducing the Transcendental Meditation Programme, one student commented, 'Slowly everything started changing—and then now it's a lot better, and there's no fighting in our school. Everybody's getting along'.

Another student said, 'I'm just a lot less angry, and so it's easier to talk to people and communicate, and relationships are a lot easier.'

'It keeps me calm through the day. It helps me focus on my school work,' another student said.

There were concrete improvements in academic achievements. 'We are seeing English scores improve, math scores improve, reading scores improve. I am telling you, now I am a believer,' one school administrator said.

The programme not only has a positive effect on the school, but its surroundings too. 'It's made a huge impact. I mean it's changed our community a full 360,' was another comment.

The students themselves are also excited about the programme. 'We have a lot of students coming up to us and asking when can they learn to meditate—when can they be part of the programme,' a teacher said.

'When you see it [the impact of the Transcendental Meditation Programme], you say ''How come this isn't everywhere? How come it's not? This works,'' ' David Lynch concluded.
