21 May 2009
On 21 May 2009 Ormskirk and Skelmersdale Advertiser reported:
Dr Fred Travis, a leading neuroscientist researching Transcendental Meditation, spoke recently in Skelmersdale, Lancashire, England, at the Woodley Park Conference Centre in Ashurst. The event drew more than 50 teachers from the North West region.
It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring
fulfilment to the field of education.
Describing Dr Travis's talk about the benefits of Transcendental Meditation for school children, the Ormskirk and Skelmersdale Advertiser quoted him as saying that 'just by meditating for 15 minutes at the start and end of the day, a child can help train their brain to perform better.
'Using TM is like going to the gym to build up your biceps, except it trains your brain,' he said.
A leading researcher at Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa, USA, Dr Travis measured the brain waves of William Marriott, 26; a large screen allowed the audience to view them in real time. Mr Marriott is a former student at Maharishi School in Skelmersdale.
In the article, Mr Marriott said he had 'been practising TM since I was four and it was fascinating to see the effect meditation had on the functions of my brain.'
'We believe periods of meditation can complement a child's education,' the article quoted Dr Derek Cassells, Head of Maharishi School, as saying. The school is offering advice and programmes on Transcendental Meditation for children of other schools in the area.
Every day Global Good News documents the rise of a better quality of life dawning in the world and highlights the need for introducing Natural Law based—Total
Knowledge based—programmes to bring the support of Nature to every individual, raise the quality of life of every society, and create a lasting state of world peace.
