On 27 May 2009 College news.com reported:
In a recent research study, an expert in brain research found that college students practising Transcendental Meditation were able to deal with stress and learn better, and improved on a 'Brain Integration Scale' with scores translating into improved mental and perceptual abilities.
It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring
fulfilment to the field of education.
In a recent article for www.collegenews.com, Kalli Avila reported about the value of meditation for students facing the pressure and anxiety of finals week.
Part of the article reported the research conducted by Dr Fred Travis, Director of the Center for Brain, Consciousness, and Cognition at Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa, USA, on students' learning ability, which he found to be improved by the practice of Transcendental Meditation.
In the research, volunteers were placed in two groups, those practising Transcendental Meditation daily and a control group that went about their usual daily activities, without learning the technique.
The meditating group was found to be able to handle school stress more easily; and 'were less tired, had greater emotional balance and were more alert', the article stated.
According to the study, a few minutes' daily practice of Transcendental Meditation will decrease students' anxiety and improve their brain functioning.
