During his recent tour in Japan, Dr Ashley Deans*, Global Ambassador for Consciousness-Based Education, met with leading government officials and other individuals who opened many doors and contacts throughout the nation.

Dr Deans and his delegation met with a former leading official in the Ministry of Defence. They discussed national invincibility, and the official noted that Japan is under the American nuclear umbrella. Dr Deans said it was very moving to see his response when the delegation pointed out that a nuclear umbrella is a great defence only until one has to use it—then everyone loses.

A former leading education official was very interested in the delegation's presentation. He was frank in discussing the current weaknesses of education, and understood very deeply the value of Consciousness-Based Education. He also assisted with many contacts for the tour, Dr Deans said.

Another very successful meeting was with a policy-maker and leader of one of Japan's political parties. This man is a graduate of Consciousness-Based Education, and Dr Deans and his team had the opportunity to present to him all of the programmes of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi—including Vedic architecture, Maharishi Sthapatya Veda; Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture; Maharishi Ayur-Veda health care; and many others.

The success of this Consciousness-Based Education tour may expand presentation opportunities for the next tour, Dr Deans said.

Expansion is already taking place by word of mouth, he noted. A man who recently learned Transcendental Meditation was so inspired that he organized a conference for business leaders and 'contacted everyone he could think of, and invited them to the conference. It was a very enthusiastic audience', Dr Deans said. Japan has been impacted by the economic recession and there is a huge amount of stress in the business community. When they heard that they could be more productive, happier, less stressed, and more creative and successful, 'there was a very warm response'. Several business leaders who attended decided to learn Transcendental Meditation.
