A number of organizations have planned a slate of events surrounding this weekend's appearance of award-winning filmmaker David Lynch. The University is hosting a Visitors Weekend with David Lynch, DLF.TV is offering the Fourth Annual David Lynch Weekend, and the Students Transcendental Meditation Association (STMA) is planning the First Annual National Congress of Meditating Students. Plus, performing at the Sondheim Theater in Fairfield will be music legend Donovan, James McCartney, son of the famed Sir Paul McCartney, and blues singer/songwriter Laura Dawn.

The three organizations will share some events while also hosting separate events.

New this year is the National Congress of Meditating Students. According to Gina Orange, a director of the Students Transcendental Meditation Association, it has been planned in response to growing interest from young people for a practical effective way to overcome stress and to satisfy the desire within to develop higher states of consciousness, fulfillment, and satisfaction in life.

The Congress is bringing together people aged 10-35 who practice the Transcendental Meditation technique and who want to establish networks to present the benefits of this practice to a new generation through the Students Transcendental Meditation Association.

Workshop participants will receive tools to establish centers of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's knowledge at high schools and on college campuses, Ms. Orange said.

The Sunday afternoon session in Dalby Hall from 1:00-2:30 will be open to all students and community members who want to support STMA. This session, which will summarize the outcomes of the weekend workshop sessions, will also be broadcast on the Web.

DLF.TV, the media arm of the David Lynch Foundation which offers streaming online video, is hosting the annual David Lynch Weekend, with a diverse range of speakers and performers, each with their own unique perspective on attaining the common goals of personal development, sustainability, and peace.

Speakers will include Dr. Lynch and Dr. John Hagelin.* Organizers are inviting anyone interested in creativity, film, art, sustainable living, organic agriculture, brain development, consciousness, meditation, natural medicine, and peace.
