Through the generosity of the David Lynch Foundation, 7,000 students in Rio de Janeiro are now practising the Transcendental Meditation Programme as part of their school day. Students and school administrators say they are seeing the benefits.

'Seriously, it's really great,' one teenage student said in an AFP video news clip, which also served as the conclusion of an article in the Kent County Daily Times (US) featuring the report. Continuing to speak of her experience with Transcendental Meditation, she said, 'I feel calmer and I'm better at dealing with everything.'
In the video news clip, another student said, 'I leave here feeling lighter, relaxed.'
The programme 'appears to be working. Rio now plans to introduce the practice in schools citywide,' the Kent County Daily Times reported.
The director for the David Lynch Foundation in Brazil explained in the AFP report that large groups of Meditators create a harmonious influence in the environment, reducing violence and other negative trends and helping to create peace in the world.
The David Lynch Foundation offers Transcendental Meditation in countries all over the world, the AFP reporter explained.
'One hundred fifty schools in Latin America have already reaped the benefits of [Transcendental] Meditation. Rio has become the leading example . . . ,' the reporter stated.
