The fourth annual David Lynch Weekend, which took place at Maharishi University of Management (M.U.M.), Fairfield, Iowa, USA, from 13 through 15 November 2009, enjoyed great success, with many students and prospective students appreciating the knowledge of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and the goals of the David Lynch Foundation.

Dr Robert Roth, National Director of Expansion for the Global Country of World Peace in the US, reported on Maharishi Global Family Chat* that over 250 visiting students attended the David Lynch Weekend. This substantial group included 120 high school or college students interested in attending M.U.M., as well as another approximately 125 students inspired by the creative work of Dr Lynch, and interested in establishing David Lynch Foundation student organizations on their college campuses.

This second group, said Dr Roth, was made up largely of those not yet practising the Transcendental Meditation Programme, but who were strongly interested in learning as well as creating awareness of the technique and its benefits among their fellow students.

The event opened with welcoming remarks from Dr John Hagelin,** President of the David Lynch Foundation; Dr Lynch; and one of the younger hosts, M.U.M. alumna Heather Hartnett, who is Director of Communications for David Lynch Foundation Television (DLF.TV).

For prospective M.U.M. students hosted by the university, there were presentations and question-and-answer sessions concerning life at M.U.M. in and outside the classroom. For those attending under the auspices of the David Lynch Foundation, Dr Lynch held workshops on how to launch clubs on college campuses to make Maharishi's knowledge and programmes available to all students.

During the weekend there were also numerous musical performances, from M.U.M. students and others. A special highlight was the American debut performance of James McCartney—son of former Beatle and long-time Transcendental Meditation practitioner Sir Paul McCartney.

The weekend closed with a conference on Sunday, 15 November, titled 'Transforming Lives', hosted by the National Congress of Meditating Students and the David Lynch Foundation. The conference hosts reviewed the Foundation's many successes throughout the world, and encouraged attending students not only to learn Transcendental Meditation, but to become teachers of the programme, so as to further the foundation's initiatives in schools, prisons, American Indian reservations, and more.

Dr Roth concluded by saying that he expects higher turnouts at future monthly M.U.M. visitors weekends for prospective students. 'The David Lynch Weekend inspired far more students than those able to attend the event, and we hope that more and more of them will be coming' in the next months.

Video replays of several sessions from the weekend are available online at DLF.TV.

** World renowned quantum physicist Dr John Hagelin is also Executive Director of the International Center for Invincible Defense and the Center for Leadership Performance, both based in New York City; professor of physics and Director of the Institute of Science, Technology and Public Policy at Maharishi University of Management; Minister of Science and Technology of the Global Country of World Peace; and Raja (Administrator) of Invincible America.
