New Zealand: Transcendental Meditation transforming schools, communities
by Global Good News staff writer

Two New Zealand schools have implemented Consciousness-Based Education this past year, with 238 students and faculty now practising the Transcendental Meditation Programme.
One school has 160 students age 5-12. Dr Raylene Lodge, who along with Dr Graeme Lodge is National Director of New Zealand for the Global Country of World Peace, recently reported on the project.*
'[The] lady principal had such a wonderful vision of how Transcendental Meditation can transform the school, that she has inspired all her staff and every student to learn Transcendental Meditation—and they practise together every day,' Dr Lodge said.
The school, which is located in an area of high crime, has also had a positive impact on the surrounding community, Dr Lodge reported.
'In January this year, it was reported that crime had unexpectedly dropped by 12 per cent over October, November, and December of last year. This, of course, is the period when increasingly the whole school was meditating twice a day.
'School has re-started now, and students have continued their Transcendental Meditation practice just as if there had never been a six-week break,' she said.
'We are now instructing the new students and we're looking forward to great transformations in the students and staff, as the benefits of Transcendental Meditation accumulate in the school and the surrounding community.'
One family in particular has been instrumental in the success of the project, she continued. The daughter is a leader of the project, and the father is one of its many generous supporters. The son and mother, both Transcendental Meditation Teachers, are teaching the technique to many students, and the son is also New Zealand's Director of Stress-Free Schools.
There are also many other dedicated Transcendental Meditation Teachers 'who have created a wonderful result at the school,' she said.
In the coming days, Global Good News will feature Dr Lodge's report about the second school as well as programmes for ladies in New Zealand.
* Dr Raylene Lodge's report was featured on the 11 February 2010 Maharishi Global Family Chat, broadcast daily via Internet webcast on the Maharishi Channel, Channel 3. Podcasts of the daily Global Family Chat (audio track) are also now available for automatic download, via an RSS feed.
