South African primary schools see benefits from Transcendental Meditation

Multiple schools in South Africa are beginning to implement Consciousness-Based Education, and are noticing profound benefits among students.
Dr Richard Peycke, National Director of South Africa for the Global Country of World Peace, reported recently* that one primary school, in Durban on the east coast of South Africa, has seen a great transformation after students began practising the Transcendental Meditation Programme. So far, 154 young students have learned the technique, and already there has been a sharp drop in bullying and suspensions. 'This has led to a great improvement in the lives of the students, and an overall positive change in the school's atmosphere,' remarked Dr Peycke.
In a second primary school, also in the Durban area, which began implementing Transcendental Meditation four to five months ago, students have been achieving high academic distinction. The principal and teachers are excited to continue the programme, and soon the entire eight grade will be learning TM—constituting 370 students. In April 2010, another 400 students will be learning.
'Both of these schools are already high performing, top institutions in their area,' added Dr Peycke. 'Transcendental Meditation provides a way to maintain that high level of achievement, in the face of broader negative trends in education taking place in South Africa.'
* Dr Peycke's report was featured on the 27 February 2010 Maharishi Global Family Chat, broadcast daily via Internet webcast on the Maharishi Channel, Channel 3. Podcasts of the daily Global Family Chat (audio track) are also now available for automatic download, via an RSS feed.
