26 June 2010
Celebrated actor, musician, director, and author Stephen Collins addressed graduates at the Commencement exercises of Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa, USA, which took place on 26 June 2010.
A long-time practitioner of the Transcendental Meditation Programme and Yogic Flying, Mr Collins warmly appreciated coherence-creating assemblies he had the opportunity to attend many years ago, both in Fairfield and in India with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.
He congratulated the coherence-creating community of Fairfield and those attending the ceremony for their tremendous contribution to the realization of Maharishi's vision of a world of enlightenment, peace, harmony, and progress.
His own practice of Transcendental Meditation allows him to stay calm and relaxed through his often grueling acting schedule, and to 'take a shower and rinse off the character' he has been playing and come back to being himself again.
Transcendental Meditation and the many other unique gifts gained at Maharishi University of Management will support graduates throughout their professional and personal lives, Mr Collins said.
He encouraged students to set an example of responsibility in the nation—to opt out of petrol dependency, choose fresh whole foods, and utilize holistic natural health care rather than medicate all their health symptoms. He encouraged the graduates to be patriots who contribute to the sustainability and progress of their country by, for example, choosing sustainable energy.
At the same time, Mr Collins said, it is important to listen to those who think differently and make different choices, and to understand their perspective.
In closing, he told graduates that he's learned it is better to play a small part in a wonderful film than to be the star in a mediocre production. Graduates of Maharishi University of Management are poised to make a huge difference in the world, he said.
In the coming days, Global Good News will continue to feature the Commencement ceremony of Maharishi University of Management.
