Trinidad and Tobago: Education, health, rehabilitation initiatives progressing

In Trinidad and Tobago, Consciousness-Based Education programmes offered by the Global Country of World Peace are moving forward, along with initiatives in health and education.

Teachers of the Transcendental Meditation Programme continue to meet with students in the SWAHA (Society Working for the Advancement of Human Aspirations) school system in Trinidad every week, 100 of whom are currently practising TM. During these meetings, Teachers check the students' practice of the programme, as well as instructing them in theoretical aspects of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's knowledge.

The principal of the school is very happy with the programme, and has obtained a very positive recommendation of Consciousness-Based Education from a leading member of the SWAHA school system. This recommendation includes mention of decreased misbehaviour, better coping with stress and peer pressure, and improved performance in most subject areas among students. 'This recommendation will help greatly as we seek further opportunities for introducing Transcendental Meditation in schools within the country,' said Dr Anthony Grell, Deputy National Director of Trinidad for the Global Country of World Peace.*

Dr Grell went on to report that he and other Global Country leaders in Trinidad recently made a presentation on Transcendental Meditation to a prominent radio show host who is involved with correctional and rehabilitation facilities in the nation. The host expressed genuine interest in implementation of TM within these types of institutions, and was impressed by related scientific research. Further meetings with the radio host will soon be arranged, said Dr Grell.

A journalist from a daily national newspaper of Trinidad has offered to publish regular articles on Transcendental Meditation in her segment of the newspaper. Already two articles have been published in the paper.

Finally, reported Dr Grell, plans for opening a Maharishi Ayur-Veda Spa are well underway in Trinidad. A location has been secured, and now necessary equipment is being acquired and some renovations are being made. The target launch date is Victory Day in October this year.
