Kenyan diaspora conference in Washington, DC highlights Global Country of World Peace programmes for African communities

At a recent conference for the Kenyan diaspora in Washington, DC, USA, experts in the health and education programmes offered by the Global Country of World Peace were invited to present their benefits for traditional African communities.

Dr Chris Crowell, Minister of Religion and Culture for the Global Country, recently reflected on the value of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's programmes for traditional communities throughout the world, as exemplified by the DC conference.*

Dr Crowell reported that, at the conference, audience members were fascinated to hear of Maharishi's programmes especially for the field of education. Speaking on this topic was Dr George Rutherford, longtime pioneer of Consciousness-Based Education and principal of a school in DC where students practise the Transcendental Meditation Programme. He described his experiences at this school, including seeing students' supreme enthusiasm for their twice daily TM practice, and the resultant improvement in their school performance and behaviour.

In conjunction with Dr Rutherford's presentation, Dr Fred Travis, Director of the Center for Brain, Consciousness, and Cognition at Maharishi University of Management (MUM), described to conference participants the process of enlivening the total brain physiology that takes place during Transcendental Meditation practice, thus allowing students to achieve their full potential.

This was followed by a presentation by Dr Robert Schneider, Dean of the College of Perfect Health at MUM, who discussed health problems faced in Africa and traditional communities. He explained that these societies have been facing the devastating impact of diseases such as diabetes and hypertension which have grown rampant in the developed world. He presented scientific research showing how Transcendental Meditation reverses these negative trends, and allows the intelligence of nature to be enlivened in the physiology.

Finally, the headmaster of the Maharishi Secondary School in Uganda, Dr Grant Lusimbo, described the successes of his students, and mentioned that the school welcomes students from the neighbouring country of Kenya. After this, the headmaster of rural Kenyan schools described how students are improving in every area—attendance, academic performance, and behaviour. These students have been deeply enjoying their practice of TM. 'This geographic area is central to the audience we were speaking to—a cultural home for many of them. They were impressed and appreciative that this technology was coming to their people,' remarked Dr Crowell.

In conclusion, Dr Crowell reiterated that it was very fulfilling to see members of the Kenyan diaspora thoroughly grasping the value of such knowledge for their traditional communities and cultures.
