Mayor of Macedonian city honoured by administrators of Maharishi's programmes around the world

The Mayor of a city in Macedonia, as well as other top leaders in education in Macedonia and other Balkan countries, were honoured recently in MERU, Holland, by administrators of organizations teaching the Transcendental Meditation Programme around the world. The Mayor's city is the seat of a university that plans to soon begin collaborating with Maharishi European Research University on Consciousness-Based Education programmes.

The Mayor was the last of the distinguished three-member delegation to address an assembly during their visit to MERU.

An administrator of the Transcendental Meditation Programme for Switzerland and several Balkan states praised the Mayor's address, and described his first visit to MERU in 2007, along with the previous speaker, an official of the university, and others from the region.

In 2007 the visitors were about to launch their new university in Macedonia, and were inspired by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's educational programmes and the potential for students to create coherence and peace throughout the Balkan region through his technologies of consciousness.

Especially noteworthy in their meeting with Maharishi at that time, the administrator said, was the Mayor's immediate recognition of Maharishi's contributions to the world. The administrator praised the Mayor for having 'profoundly understood Maharishi's principles, that administration is through education', and that 'if you raise the collective consciousness, then administration becomes much simpler, and you see all the positive tendencies are strengthened.'

Maharishi also very much enjoyed the Mayor's 'determined approach to accomplishing things', and addressed him as 'Lord Mayor', in honour of the great dignity of the ancient tradition of rulership of supreme knowledge he displayed, the administrator said; a title the Mayor proudly accepted.

It has been the Mayor's initiative, together with the leaders of the university, the administrator explained, to establish and expand their new university. He praised the delegation's remarkable achievements in having so quickly established it in four Balkan countries; and the appointment of the distinguished senior leader in education and diplomacy, who also spoke earlier, as rector of the university. He also gave recognition to the university board president's 'absolutely relentless drive to bring not just education, but better and better education to the region and to your students'.

He went on to describe the friendly relationships and deep mutual appreciation and support that have developed with all these leaders over the last few years. Global Good News will feature the conclusion of the administrator's remarks to the delegation from the Balkans visiting MERU, Holland.
