On 1 March 2011 Health and Wellness Magazine reported:
An EEG (brain wave) study published in the U.S. journal Cognitive Processing indicates that the practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique enables the brain to reset to a natural state of 'restful alertness', and creates greater alpha coherence between the right and left hemispheres of the brain, suggesting that the brain is functioning as a whole.
It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring
fulfilment to the field of education.
Health and Wellness reported that the three-month study was conducted on college students at American University in Washington, DC. According to the study, which was published in February 2010, Transcendental Meditation enhances an individual's sense of 'self' by activating what neuroscientists call the 'default mode network' in the brain.
'Brain research describes that the TM technique develops the full brain, boosts intelligence and creativity, enhances problem-solving abilities and improves decision-making,' the article in Health and Wellness states. 'The TM technique is a great tool to add to one's education and overall health.'
'If the purpose of higher education is to enable an individual to think and act successfully, then education is significant only when it enlivens the whole brain. Therefore, the level of integrated brain functioning is a reliable gauge of the success of a student's educational experience,' comments lead author Dr. Fred Travis, Director of the Center for Brain, Consciousness, and Cognition at Maharishi University of Management, USA, and a widely published brain researcher, in the article.
