Maharishi University of Management is featured in Sierra magazine's September-October 2011 issue, as one of 'America's Coolest Schools'—the magazine's annual tribute to the 'greenest' colleges in the United States.

The MUM campus in Fairfield, Iowa, USA, is noted as the first of four schools in a special section called 'The Nonconformist Class'. The article highlights the university's distinction as the first to offer a four-year undergraduate degree programme in Sustainable Living,* as well as its Consciousness-Based Education programme and other aspects including all-organic vegetarian meals.

'Attending to the earth is hardwired into the school's signature . . . practice, Transcendental Meditation,' the article states. 'From it, says Robbie Gongwer, the program developer for MUM's Sustainable Living Center, ''students get this subjective experience of an interconnectedness to life.'' '

* MUM also offers an MBA degree in Sustainable Business.
