Maharishi University of Management launches iPhone/iPad App

Maharishi University of Management has recently launched a free iPhone/iPad app featuring MUM's Admissions brochures. The app was a project of the MUM Admissions Office working with GradMags,* a company that specializes in creating web-friendly versions of university magazines and publications.

The brochures currently available include:
MUM Undergraduate and Graduate Programs
Perspectives from Alumni
Assessing Student Outcomes
Education for Enlightenment (The Viewbook)
The Story of Consciousness-Based Education, and
Celebrating 40 Years of Consciousness-Based Education, which has been enhanced with over a dozen videos accessible from within the document.

''The target audience for the app is prospective students, because it is a save-a-tree way for us to get our print documents out there without using paper,'' said Paul Stokstad, director of marketing at Admissions.

Through the app, viewers on the iPad can enjoy the high-quality graphics and design that are not always available in a PDF format or on the Web. In addition, videos are inserted into the text providing an appealing new synthesis of media. The app also connects users to MUM's 'Achievements' archive and the MUM pages on Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter.

GradMags technology will also be used on MUM's Website to enhance the MUM Course Catalog display with live links in the table of contents. ''In the long term, we are hoping we can extend the app beyond a brochure delivery tool to become a serial publication called MUM Magazine, which would aggregate a number of University news sources,'' said Mr. Stokstad.

The app is accessible through the Apple App Store and through the MUM website.

* The GradMags home page features the MUM app in its Showcase of current and upcoming apps, and also includes the MUM publication Education for Enlightenment—the 'Viewbook'—in a group of sample digital web editions that can be viewed online.
