On his speaking tour of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus, Dr Bevan Morris, President of Maharishi University of Management, devoted much of his time to visiting universities. He spoke with students and educational leaders at five different universities in Cyprus to make the many benefits of Transcendental Meditation and Consciousness-Based Education available to these academic communities.

Consciousness-Based Education is a unique educational system which effortlessly develops the whole individual from the inside, releasing stress, promoting total brain functioning, and cultivating creativity and intelligence, as well as increasing coherence and harmony in the surrounding community.

According to a teacher of Transcendental Meditation in the region, Cyprus is a very strategic place and an important country for the establishment of Consciousness-Based Education.

'Fifty per cent of the world's population has their religious roots there. To see in Cyprus the layers of civilization, one on top of the other, back from the ancient Greek times, the Roman times, the Venetian times, the Ottoman empire, and appreciate that in this whole region total knowledge must have been there at one time.'

He added that the goal of Consciousness-Based Education is to reenliven that Total Knowledge of natural law. 'It's a very fortunate situation,' he said, having made these connections with rectors and directors of universities.

Dr Albert Baruh, director of the Transcendental Meditation Programme in nearby Turkey and in northern Cyprus, agreed that Dr Morris's two-day visit in northern Cyprus had a very positive impact.

'It was very beneficial,' he said. Introducing Consciousness-Based Education in Cyprus would help all of the Middle East, Dr Baruh added.

This is because universities in Cyprus attract students from all the neighbouring countries.

'There are 45,000 students in northern Cyprus, which is more than 20 per cent of the population. These students are coming from Middle Eastern countries and African countries.' Students practising Transcendental Meditation and enjoying Consciousness-Based Education in Cyprus will 'help all the Middle East and African countries'.
