Students, parents, and faculty at Maharishi School of the Age of Enlightenment in Fairfield, Iowa, USA, have noticed that there is even more to the school than its key elements of challenging academics and focus on inner development. A new video about the school takes a closer look at the sense of belonging and nurturing students find in the community.

Jordan, a middle school student, said, 'It's just a really great environment to grow up in and be taught in.'

'I knew, walking through the school, that we were walking on grounds where there is respect,' commented Jucymara Reed, whose daughter attends the school. 'Whoever you are, you are worthy; we respect you.'

The school also has a boarding programme that attracts students and families from all over the world, thus giving the student body a diversity uncommon especially in rural areas of the midwestern United States.

'Our kids have the benefit of the richness of encountering people of other cultures,' said Lawrence Eyre, retired tennis coach. 'People learn, ''I can rub elbows with people from a lot of different races and we can get along just fine.'' '

Several students agreed, remarking upon the sense of family even among such a diverse community.

A high school student named Surya added that there is not the traditional formation of cliques. No one is excluded or avoided; instead he feels that he is friends with everyone in the class.

These friendships and the sense of belonging extend beyond the students' time in high school.

'I finished high school here with such a strong love of learning, and coming out of high school and into college, that's always been something I'm really grateful for,' said John Armstrong, Maharishi School alumnus.

'Everyone wants what I had,' said Raphael, another alumnus. 'They are all like, ''Wow, that sounds like a really great way to grow up and go to high school. Why didn't I do that?'' '
