A delegation from Maharishi University of Management (MUM) in the United States traveled to Mongolia recently for a three-day seminar and workshop. They were personally invited to attend by the largest university in Mongolia.
The group from Maharishi University of Management included Dr Bevan Morris, President, as well as three professors. Those professors were Dr Fred Travis, Director of the Center for Brain, Consciousness, and Cognition; Professor Lonnie Gamble, founding faculty and curriculum director for the Sustainable Living department; and visiting management faculty Jim Bagnola.
Dr Morris remarked that he first visited Mongolia in 1992 when conditions were very different.
The hosting university was Mongolian University of Science and Technology (MUST), the largest university in Mongolia with a total of 40,000 students.
The seminar and workshop were both inspired by a visit MUST faculty made to Maharishi University of Management, so the workshop was specially designed for presentations by the professors from MUM.
On a trip to the United States last spring, two professors from the Mongolian University of Science and Technology visited the MUM campus in Fairfield, Iowa. Encouraged by what they saw, they returned to Mongolia inspired to learn the Transcendental Meditation technique.
They also invited MUM professors to Mongolia to participate in a conference on innovation in human development, with a focus on Consciousness-Based Education, leadership, and sustainable development.
Consequently, in the autumn the Maharishi University of Management delegation traveled to Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, a city of about one million people.
They noted several unique characteristics of the country right away. Though the land size is equivalent to that of Western Europe, the total population is just under three million people. They also found that the population is happy. According to at least one ranking, Mongolia rates highest in terms of the overall happiness of the nation.
Global Good News will continue to feature the Maharishi University of Management delegation's visit to Mongolia.
